Use the Ocean as Your Teaching Tool!

The Farallones Marine Sanctuary Association's education programs are designed to inspire and inform students about the Sanctuary's unique wildlife and diverse habitats. Through education, the Sanctuary hopes to support a new generation of ocean stewards.

Elementary School Programs

Elementary School Programs

The Sanctuary Visitor Center offers a variety of grade specific, lively, hands-on programs for students grades K-6. Programs are two hours long and take place in the Sanctuary classroom, Visitor Center, and on beautiful Chrissy Field Beach.

The Sharkmobile, the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary's new outreach program, brings shark biology and conservation topics to life in fourth, fifth and sixth grade classrooms.

Junior High/High School Monitoring Programs

Middle and High School Monitoring Programs

The Sandy Beach and the Rocky Intertidal Monitoring Projects are in-depth education and monitoring programs designed to provide students with the opportunity to experience the scientific process firsthand.

Participants are provided with background information, monitoring protocols, data analysis activities, and final assessment ideas - all linked to California State Science Standards. The education staff at FMSA provide training and support in the classroom and in the field as needed.
