Teacher Workshop Series

2008-2009 Workshop Series

FMSA offers a series of professional development workshops throughout the year to teachers and educators in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. The 2008-2009 workshop series is currently being developed. In general, we offer the following:

—LiMPETS Workshops: These 5-hour Saturday workshops are offered to teachers who are interested in participating in the Sanctuary's Long-term Monitoring Program and Experiential Training for Students (LiMPETS).
—Lectures and Field Courses: These short Saturday courses are designed for teachers and educators interested in learning about marine science topics related to intertidal biology and ecology. All courses are taught by enthusiastic scientists and local experts.
—Coastal Ecosystem Workshop: This in-depth, multi-day summer workshop is designed primarily for middle and high school teachers and focuses on one unit of the Sanctuary's Coastal Ecosystem Curriculum, such as oceanography, sandy beaches, seabirds, etc.

COST: All workshops are free. 6th - 12th grade teachers receive stipends for their participation.

CREDIT: Teachers can receive Continuing Education Units (CEU) through Dominican University.
