Coastal Ecosystem Workshop 2009
Teachers! Looking for new ways to make science come alive in your classroom?
This year our summer workshop will focus on one of the most diverse and productive regions of the world - California’s rocky intertidal. This unique ecosystem is truly an interdisciplinary classroom providing opportunities to learn about geology, climate change, biology, ecology, evolution and the myriad of connections between humans and the ocean. Participants will broaden their knowledge of the rocky intertidal, connect and collaborate with local teachers and scientists, and receive background materials and classroom resources from the Sanctuary’s Coastal Ecosystem Curriculum (all activities linked to CA State Science Standards).
Workshop presentations, activities, and content are geared for middle and high school biology and environmental science teachers; however, all teachers and educators are welcome.
Location: Sanctuary Office, San Francisco, CA
Agenda: Lectures by guest scientists will be followed by classroom activities and hands-on demonstrations:
