California Coastal Cleanup Day

Volunteering for a Beach Clean-Up is a great way for families, students, service groups, and neighbors to join together, take care of our fragile marine environment, and show community support for our shared natural resources. Do your part to protect marine life and learn about the impacts of marine debris and how we can prevent them! Click here to learn more about the beaches.

Sanctuary Ambassadors

Sanctuary Ambassadors.

Do you love to share information about the environment you care about and want to protect? This opportunity gets you out to fairs, festivals and cultural events around the Bay Area, talking with the public about the Sanctuary and FMSA's Programs. You can staff the sanctuary booth, disseminate information and share your enthusiasm about the Sanctuary and the marine world. Weekends only—and you must commit to two to four events per year. (Did we say you must like to talk to people?)

Snapshot Day

Volunteer Snapshot Day.

This water quality-monitoring day puts volunteers out on beaches and streams taking water samples to be tested. You have the chance to use water-testing equipment and participate in an annual one-day water quality event in May each year. One day of training required.

Volunteer Special Events.

Special Events

Throughout the year Sanctuary Volunteers participate in special events ranging from the Coastal Beach Clean-Up to the OceanFilm Festival lending a hand where needed and sharing their time and energy. The opportunities are different annually. It's a fun and diverse way to get involved, meet great people and be a part the Sanctuary volunteer community.

Office Volunteers

Have you recently retired or have some spare hours between your college classes? Will you share your many skills with the Sanctuary and lend some of your weekday time to us? We can use your help and expertise in our office Mon. - Fri. with projects, programs and everyday things. We need you!

Sharkmobile

Sharkmobile

Help assist or present a one-hour school program to 4-6 grade students in classrooms around the Bay area. Here is your chance to learn about the many wonders of sharks and share that knowledge with students! Must be available between 9am - 2pm on weekdays and commit to two programs per month.
